I went to the orienteering. I pushed in a red round thing. And then we looked at the map. Then we ran where we had to go. There were lots of mud puddles and lots of gates. And we had to go 9 laps. And then we were at the end and my Mum was happy!
Then we had some food. We drived home and I took off my shoes!

Josh retells the Legend of Maui and the Sun.

How Maui Slowed The Sun
Long ago Te Ra, the sun moved too quickly. So Maui thought of a plan. Soon after that, they cut some flax and they plaited it. They chanted the karakia. Then as quietly as a mouse they crept to where the sun rises. It was a very long way. As the sun begun to rise, they built a clay wall. As soon as the hot white teeth came up, they threw the ropes around the sun’s hot burning hair. Maui grabbed the magic jaw bone and smashed it on Te Ra’s head with all his might and then the sun went slower and they got all their work done in time.

MATHS GROUPS

We have been learning to count forwards and backwards from any number up to 100.
HOW DID WE GET ON?
Josh - I got on good going forwards. I need to practise going backwards.
Jacob - I got on pretty good. I can try a bit more to go forwards next week.
Ben - Somtimes I do it with my fingers and sometimes I do it in my head. It is easier to do it in my head.
Thomas - It is quicker doing it in my head.
Liam B - I can do it going forwards and I need to practise going backwards.
SQUARES
We have been learning to add in tens.
HOW DID WE GET ON?
Olly - I can count in tens in my head.
Georgia - I can add in tens using the containers.
Regan - I can count backwards from 100 in tens.
Hunter - I know that 4 + 3 = 7 so 40 + 30 = 70
Jonathan - I can add in tens using the beans.
Ana - I know that 2 + 2 = 4 so 20 + 20 = 40
Bella - it is easier for me to add in ones then add zero.
Dean - I start with the first number then I add the next number. I can do it fast in my head.

Symmetry

We had fun making these symmetrical patterns. We had to paint on one side of the fold then fold it over and press all over it. We had to use lots of paint so it would go on the other side of the paper.

Discovery Time

This week we had fun creating and participating in a variety of activities. Valerie brought along her very special popcorn maker, we put cream in a jar and kept shaking it until it turned into butter. We painted symmetrical butterflies, made swords and painted them and practised hitting a target. Thanks to Cindy, Valerie and Louise for helping us.

Puppet Show

On Monday David Poulton brought his Puppet Show to Russell Street School.
We did a PMI (Plus, Minus, and Interesting) to say what we thought about the show.
PLUS
Hunter - I liked how Wally danced.
Regan, Bella, Josh, Jacob and Taylor liked the crocodile in "Wok and the Egg" story.
Ana liked "Stone Soup"
Dean liked Wok and the pool.
Liam B and Michael liked the elephant.
Thomas liked the sword swallowing.
MINUS - The man had a black veil on his head so you could not see his face. It would be better at night so you could not see the man doing the puppets.
INTERESTING
Ben and Thomas liked how the man showed us how the puppets were made.

Party for Rocket's Return!

In Discovery Time today we had some special party food for Rocket's return. We made banana and marshmallow kebabs and had some lemonade. We had fun!

Rocket Returns!

Hi Rockets in Room 13. I have just come back from a great holiday in Indonesia. I went to visit my cousins. We had fun playing in the jungle. I did not know you were trying to find me because I did not have my laptop with me. I heard some people talking and they said a monkey was missing. Then I realized they were talking about me. So I jumped back in my rocket and came back as fast as i could. Please write me some comments or questions.I would love to hear from you.
